|

Free and Special events Celebrating Sanctuary is an extraordinary event which gathers together established and emerging refugee musicians, dancers and artists to celebrate the positive cultural contribution of refugees to the UK. Now in its 8th year, Celebrating Sanctuary demonstrates that such a vibrant panorama of sight, sound, aroma and taste would not exist had it not been for the UK’s hard won tradition of providing sanctuary to those fleeing persecution from many parts of the globe. | Events - What's feminism got to do with it? | |
|
The Women's Resource Centre, in association with the Directory of Social Change, is hosting a debate on the role of feminism in the women's voluntary and community sector. Do you have to be a feminist to work in the women's sector? Is feminism the key to women's activism or an exclusive, outdated or unhelpful concept? Chaired by Natasha Walter (Guardian columnist, author of The New Feminism, and co-ordinator of Women for Refugee Women), this event will bring together speakers from within the sector and beyond to debate the importance of feminism in the modern women's voluntary sector. There are 20 children and young adults in the choir. All are blind. The UK tour will provide a memorable experience for these exceptionally gifted and talented young people and provide urgently needed funds for the school after the long civil war. | Training - Management Training for women | |
|
Account3 in conjunction with Hillcroft Womens College will be providing training for the ILM Level 3 Management Qualification from September. The course is completely free (funded by ESF Co-financing) and is open to women who do not already have a management qualification but are working or volunteering in supervisory positions in small businesses, voluntary and community organisations or small charities within any area of London Women in the third sector could take advantage of this project to gain a nationally recognised management qualification based on the work they are already doing. Account3 has not fixed venues yet and will book them where there is most interest, in order to make it as accessible as possible. So if you want you could form a study group with people you know and do the qualification together close to where you live. The course is free and exam fees, childcare and travel will be provided. benefits your community? During this training you will hear from social entrepreneur you will learn about the characteristics that make social entrepreneurs successful. You will also learn about social enterprise, and how this relates to other types of social organisations such as charities. SSE works with a diverse range ofindividuals and organisations. | Resources - Workforce Reforms across the Further Education/Learning & Skills Sector | |

| Funding - Clore Performing Arts Awards |
|
|
The Clore Performing Arts Awards (previously the Small
Grants Programme) funds performing arts education initiatives aimed at
children and young people (aged 0-18) across the UK. The Awards will be
worth a total of £1 million to the sector over a five-year period
from 2005 to 2010. The Awards will fund project costs ranging from £1,000 to £10,000 Full details can be found here. |

|
|
This award programme encourages groups to use the Internet to connect, support and inspire. The TalkTalk innovation in the Community Awards 2007 are open to community groups and registered charities in the UK that are seeking funding for new and existing Internet projects. Many UK charities and community groups have recognised the power of
the Internet for giving much needed support, from chat rooms on health
issues to web-based support networks. Broadband, mobile and other digital
technologies are helping to provide essential lifelines. TalkTalk and
Citizens Online have teamed up to help UK charities and community groups
harness the power of the web. Thirty projects will benefit from £2,000
each, plus a year’s free subscription to TalkTalk. |

You will be responsible for the smooth running of our interpreting and advocacy service including volunteer coordination & support, liaising with GP surgeries and ensuring the service is delivered to a high standard. You will also take a lead role in developing our newly launched pilot enhanced advocacy service for vulnerable service users. Applicants need to be enthusiastic and able to motivate and support volunteers. You will be well organised, have excellent communication, IT and admin skills, and enjoy a demanding and varied workload. You will have experience of working with volunteers and a keen interest and awareness of advocacy, interpreting and refugee issues.
