| Events - "They get free mobiles...don't they?" | |
|
A new multimedia documentary theatre production from Birmingham-based Banner Theatre, which sets out to bust some of the myths about refugees and asylum seekers. This live multimedia show, combining music, song, video, film and theatre, speaks for asylum seekers in their quest for safety and security after fleeing war-torn lands in Africa and the Middle East. It tells the human stories of people in the wrong place at the wrong time, and cuts through the myths and prejudice surrounding the search for sanctuary in England’s green but sometimes not so pleasant land. | Events - Building strong local communities: delivering community cohesion in London | |
|
This London Councils conference takes place against a backdrop of
a national debate about identity, integration and the increasing diversity
of our communities. As the recent report by the Commission on Integration

the overwhelming majority of people, of all races, faiths and nationalities,
getting on well. But the report also made clear that the biggest influence
on people’s perception is what is happening in their local area. For any further information and bookings click here or contact the events team on Tel. 020.7934.9758, email events@londoncouncils.gov.uk |

| Events - Social Enterprise is the Business | |
|
Keynote Speakers: Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London; Phil Hope MP, Minister for the Third Sector, Cabinet Office; Sir Ronald Cohen, Chairman, Commission on Unclaimed Assets and Chairman, Social Investment Task Force; Charlie Mayfield, Chair, John Lewis Partnership. London is a leader in business and social enterprise innovation, providing world-beating solutions to social and environmental challenges. Social enterprise is dynamic, encompassing well-known companies like the John Lewis Partnership and The Big Issue as well as hidden gems like ECT who provide one in five Londoners with doorstep recycling, and Greenwich Leisure Limited which runs over 60 leisure facilities in London. Now is the time and London is the place for social enterprise: the 2012 Games and their promise of a ‘legacy' for London; developments in public service delivery; and the shift towards socially responsible business have resulted in social enterprise gaining cross-party support and a greater public profile. In this exciting context Social Enterprise London, the Capital's support agency for social enterprise, presents Social Enterprise is the Business: Creating New Markets in London . This conference provides a unique opportunity to discuss the seismic shifts in business development and public service delivery, opening up new markets with new challenges. The conference will bring together key politicians, policy-makers, journalists, private businesses, local authorities and social entrepreneurs.
