Events - "Building brighter futures" - trick or treat

17 January 2008, 11am-1pm, Campaign for Learning, 19 Buckingham Street, London, WC2N 6EF
Cost: £80 plus VAT

The Children’s Plan was presented to Parliament and launched by Ed Balls and his ministerial team in December. In this seminar, Chris Waterman, Children’s Services Editor of Education Journal, who heard the debate in Parliament and attended the launch, will argue that this plan is the most significant document yet to emerge from the Brown administration. With the emphasis on childhood and the need to look beyond the 9.00 to 4.00 school provision, the Children’s Plan demonstrates the commitment of the SOS to heading up the national children’s trust. Delegates will have plenty of opportunities to discuss the issues and questions raised.

Funding - Capacity Builder' Improving Reach Programme 2008-2011

Grants up to £150,000 a year for three years.
Closing date: 28 January 2008

Improved ‘sector support services’ can play an important role in assisting and strengthening third sector, frontline organisations so that they can be more effective in their work to create a better quality of life for individuals and communities. This funding programme aims to help develop stronger infrastructure support organisations who work with BME, faith, refugee and isolated rural communities.

The Improving Reach programme for 2008-11 aims to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Smaller organisations have more skills and resources to provide support services to third-sector frontline organisations which work with excluded communities. These smaller organisations are able to continue their work after our funding has run out.
  • More frontline organisations working in and with excluded communities can get high-quality support services which are appropriate for them.

Information on the programme, funding criteria and guidelines can be found here.
