MODA News - MODA’s Quality Support Project
 


Deadline: 1 March 2008

The project aims to build up quality systems, policies and procedures of the beneficiary organisations to meet the standards of obtaining Quality Mark or PQASSO. We have space for up to 10 new community groups to receive this free service from now until August 2008. The groups will be selected on ‘first come, first serve” basis. MODA News - MODA’s Outreach capacity-building support

This project aims to support small and medium community organisations in areas of capacity-building needs identified by the groups themselves. As part of our 2008 progarmme. we are now in the process of recruiting 10-15 community groups to provide them with free1-2-1 targeted technical support to build up their governance and operational structures, help them with business and project planning and management and increase their access to resources and funding. Olmec is pleased to announce its new job brokerage project for refugees wishing to work in teaching or support roles in London. We offer: Access to employment opportunities; Support with CV building and applications; Support in interview techniques and preparing for interviews; Referral to appropriate providers if necessary

We are calling for organisations to promote the project to their clients, refer clients to the project, and meet us to develop mutually beneficial ways of working. You just have to fill in a client referral form and send it back to us. If the client you refer gains employment through us, we will give you £100.

Conference: “Connecting across Culture and Faith in Schools and Communities”
Monday, 28th April and Tuesday, 29th April 2008, London

The Centre for Cross-Cultural Studies and the Centre for Mediation Studies and Conflict Resolution at the Institute of Family Therapy are calling for workshop proposals and papers for their Conference: “Connecting across Culture and Faith in Schools and Communities”. The Conference will take place on Monday, 28th April and Tuesday, 29th April 2008.

Conference Overview - In this two day conference, we hope to bring together perspectives from the fields of conflict resolution and intercultural studies, to provide those working in schools and communities with a range of skills and ideas for conceptualising and intervening in school and community conflicts. The conference is aimed at teachers, learning mentors, education welfare officers, school counsellors, head teachers, community workers, youth workers, mediators, social workers, psychologists, family therapists, professionals in higher educational institutions and other interested mental health professionals.

Up to £20,000 for projects to reduce health inequalities in Westminster.

Can your organisation deliver a project that will reduce health inequalities in Westminster? Westminster Primary Care Trust is inviting expressions of interest for projects that will promote health and wellbeing in the city. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 05 March.

Funding - Young People’s Fund 2: National Grants


Open for applications: 5 December 2007; Application closing date: 4 April 2008
Minimum grant: £200,000; Maximum grant: £5 million; Total available: up to £38 million

This Big Lottery Fund programme will fund projects of national significance that involve young people in developing, running and reviewing policies and services and help deliver the five ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes. Grants of up to £5 million are available (with an average grant size of £1 million) for projects that work with young people across England. We expect to fund approximately 20 projects.

Key aspects of the programme are as follows: Our focus is on changing the lives of young people by putting them in the lead; We will only fund projects that involve young people from start to finish; Grants will be available for up to five years; All projects must have beneficiaries from two or more of the nine England regions; Only voluntary and community sector organisations may apply.

Funding - Big Lottery's Advice Plus


Open for applications: 12 November 2007; Application closing date: 1 April 2008
Minimum grant: £10,000; Maximum grant: £500,000
Total available: £50 million between 2006 and 2009 (£20 million in round 2)

Advice Plus aims to help people in need access good quality advice on their legal rights and responsibilities, so that they can avoid or overcome disadvantage.

Earlier this year, in Round One we awarded £30 million to 71 advice agencies across England. Advice Plus Round Two launched on the 12 November 2007, with a budget of £20 million across the nine England regions. Round Two will fund third sector legal advice services that collaborate with other advice services in their local area. Advice Plus will only fund projects focusing on legal rights and responsibilities.

Are you from a refugee community or would you like to gain experience in event organising?
We are offering a work placement at Islington Council's Refugee Integration Service. The work placement will involve coordinating events for Refugee Week 16 - 22 June 2008 in Islington.

You would gain experience in setting up and recording meetings, event organising, making funding applications, liaising with community organisations and council departments and improving IT skills.
The placement would be based at our office (soon to move to Angel, Islington). Travel, lunch costs and training will be provided, the placement is not a paid position. We are looking for someone who could start as soon as possible and work two or three days a week up until Refugee Week

The UK government has committed to launching a refugee resettlement programme and we will deliver it across the Yorkshire & Humberside region. Our team will provide advice and support, helping refugees to access essential services and establish links in the community.

Providing refugees with impartial, professional friendship for their first few months in the UK, our volunteers will help them learn about life here. You will be responsible for recruiting these people, particularly trying to attract those who have been refugees themselves. Raising awareness of the opportunities on offer, you will organise the necessary background checks and training and report back on their progress once they are on board.

You will have previous experience of working with volunteers and know how to recruit and support them in line with best practice. With proven skills in planning and delivering training, you will also be capable of developing policy and writing reports. Able to motivate other and prioritise your workload, you must understand the issues facing refugees and asylum seekers in the UK today.

Jobs - Youth Volunteers Coordinator, Brent Volunteer Centre

Brent Volunteer Centre is an integral part of BrAVA, advancing volunteering in Brent through information and support to both volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations.

Brent Volunteer Centre’s new youth project is funded by vinvolved – the national youth volunteering programme. The project will aim to involve hundreds of young people, aged 16 to 25, as volunteers at BrAVA. Young people will be central to the project, shaping its development through a Youth Volunteer Committee and as peer mentors to other young people. The Youth Volunteer Coordinator will coordinate all project activities including marketing, partnership work, youth involvement and monitoring and evaluation, and will support the Youth Volunteer Worker with the recruitment and support of young volunteers.
The successful candidate will be a qualified professional Youth Worker with a JNC-approved Diploma or Degree (or equivalent experience), with at least three years experience of working with and assessing the needs of young people from hard-to-reach communities. Experience of organising events and delivering workshops or training for young people will be an added advantage.
