The project aims to build up quality systems, policies and procedures of the beneficiary organisations to meet the standards of obtaining Quality Mark or PQASSO. We have space for up to 10 new community groups to receive this free service from now until August 2008. The groups will be selected on ‘first come, first serve” basis. Deadline: 1 March 2008 This project aims to support small and medium community organisations in areas of capacity-building needs identified by the groups themselves. As part of our 2008 progarmme. we are now in the process of recruiting 10-15 community groups to provide them with free1-2-1 targeted technical support to build up their governance and operational structures, help them with business and project planning and management and increase their access to resources and funding. | Events - Connecting across Culture and Faith in Schools and Communities | |

The Centre for Cross-Cultural Studies and the Centre for Mediation Studies and Conflict Resolution at the Institute of Family Therapy are pleased to announce their upcoming Conference: “Connecting across Culture and Faith in Schools and Communities”. There will be a range of workshops and papers from presenters in the
fields of education, cross-cultural studies, systemic psychotherapy,
mediation and conflict resolution. In this two day conference, we hope
to bring together perspectives from the fields of conflict resolution
and intercultural studies, to provide those working in schools and communities
with a range of skills and ideas for conceptualising and intervening
in school and community conflicts. The conference is aimed at teachers,
learning mentors, education welfare officers, school counsellors, head
teachers, community workers, youth workers, mediators, social workers,
psychologists, family therapists, professionals in higher educational

29 February - NETWORKING - We will meet other users and exchange experiences and views on our life in the UK. Through developing a good network, we will improve our social life as well as increase the opportunity to find a job and/or voluntary work. 28 March (4pm to 6pm) - Focus Group - We will evaluate our work and plan together the future employability activities. 11 April - Volunteer Fair - We will meet different organisations and find out about voluntary work/internship opportunities that will help us get relevant experience, contacts and references for our future career. 23 May - Recruitment Fair - We will meet recruiters from different sectors and find out about local vacancies and employment opportunities. | Events - Storehouse Open Day | |
|
Storehouse is a charity which provides good quality second hand clothing, toys, books, shoes, baby equipment and emergency food packages to disadvantaged families living in the London Borough of Hounslow, Richmond, Kingston and Spelthorne. They work in partnership with health clinics, social workers, health professionals, Children's Centres and many organisations in the voluntary sector. They also have an annual Christmas Toy Giveaway where parents can choose a brand new toy for each of their children. As part of their development skills programs, they run ESOL classes for asylum seekers and refugees and are involved in some projects in Zimbabwe, Peru and the Philippines. This first Storehouse open day aims to show their
work in helping and supporting local communities. There will be a short
presentation at 11.30 a.m followed by a question and answer session.
A number of local organisations will also be present to exhibit their
work and there will be opportunities to network. Refreshments and a
light lunch will be provided. |

07 March - Info for newly arrived migrants - We will understand how the Job Centre works; learn how to get a National Insurance Number and how to settle well in the UK. 14 March - Introduction to the UK labour market - We will talk about the UK labour market looking at opportunities available in different sectors. 28 March - Welfare in the UK - We will talk about the welfare system in the UK, have our questions answered and get to know where to go for more information and advice on our own benefit entitlements. 04 April - Introduction to immigration rules and regulations - We will learn the basic rules and regulations for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in relation to employment and education. 25 April - Introduction to your rights at work - We will look at employment law and our work rights and entitlements here in London. We will learn how to protect ourselves from work exploitation. These sessions will be repeated on a monthly basis. Funding - Big Lottery's Young People's Fund 2 |
|
|
Up to £38 million will fund projects of national significance that involve young people in developing, running and reviewing policies and services and help deliver the five ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes. Grants of up to £5 million are available (with an average grant size of £1 million) for projects that work with young people across England. We expect to fund approximately 20 projects. Key aspects of the programme are as follows: Our focus is on changing the lives of young people by putting them in the lead; We will only fund projects that involve young people from start to finish; Grants will be available for up to five years; All projects must have beneficiaries from two or more of the nine England regions; Only voluntary and community sector organisations may apply. Funding - London Councils Funding for Second Tier Services |
|
|
If successful your organisation will support organisations funded by London Councils under a range of services, outlined in the service specification. Your organisation will also be expected to support the wider sector during future bidding rounds. Second tier services must be provided on a London-wide basis, and will reflect the borough spread of the London Councils funded organisations that you will be supporting. Funding - Big Lottery's Research Programme |
|
|
BIG is providing up to £25 million in the UK over 2007-2009 to fund social and medical research grants in the UK. The aim of the Research programme is to influence local and national policy and practice by funding the Third Sector to produce and disseminate evidence based knowledge. In the longer term the programme, through producing sound evidence, will aim to help develop better services and interventions for beneficiaries. The programme is demand-led. It will fund high quality social and medical research on issues identified, and considered important, by the charitable and voluntary and community sector; and support the use and dissemination of this research activity. Key is that beneficiaries and users are involved, in setting the agenda, conducting, managing and disseminating the research. For further information click here. |

Based in one of the Refugee Council’s regional offices in London,
the postholder will provide advice and support to asylum seekers and
refugees. For newly arrived asylum seekers, this will involve assistance
with their support applications to the Borders and Immigration Agency
(BIA). Asylum seekers housed in London also access the One Stop Service
for advice and support, as do refugees who have received a decision

| Jobs - Refugee Council Office Manager (West London) | |

The Refugee Council’s Support and Advice Section assists refugees and asylum seekers with a wide range of welfare rights, advice, health and immigration related issues. We also provide material support and work with other specialist agencies, health providers and other partners to enable refugees and asylum seekers to access the services they need. More than 40,000 visits are made to our Brixton and Hounslow offices each year, with more clients supported on an outreach basis across London. Clients range from newly arrived asylum seekers (including unaccompanied minors) to those who have received refugee status. The Office Manager (West London) will be responsible for the smooth running of our Hounslow office that provides two services: 1. a ‘One Stop Service’ (OSS) providing advice and guidance to all refugees and asylum seekers on a diverse range of issues such as immigration, housing, education, benefits and access to legal advice; 2. a ‘Sunrise’ pilot project, providing casework support to refugees to enable them to integrate into UK society.
