Funding - J Paul Getty Charitable Trust

The J Paul Getty Trust have recently updated their website. The Trust gives grants totalling about £1.8 million per year to registered charities for social welfare, arts, conservation and the environment (the majority of funding goes to social welfare).

You can read more about what the specific types of work the Trust wants to fund on their website. In theory, you can apply for grants of any size. In practice, read through the grants list in their annual report and you will see a small number of larger one-off donations of up to £50,000, a lot of grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 per year over three years, and a few one-off donations of £1,000 to £2,000.

There are no deadlines for applications, and trustees meet quarterly. Application is by letter rather than application form.

More info is on the J Paul Getty Trust website.

Funding - Sportsmatch

Sportsmatch is funded by Sport England to support the development of grassroots sport in England. We make awards to organisations running projects aimed at increasing participation in sports at community level. We do this through matching eligible funding invested in community sport.

We will match funding for any eligible sporting activity, so long as it is recognised as a sport by Sport England.

The maximum amount of sponsorship monies we will match is £50,000 and the minimum is £1,000. Sponsorship support doesn't have to be in cash - in some circumstances we will also match in-kind sponsorship. If you have a query over any in-kind sponsorship please contact your Scheme Manager.

We cannot match sponsorship funding if the project is due to be completed post 31st March 2009.

As a funding body, we have a number of Priority Groups, as follows:

* Women and girls
* Black and Minority Ethnic groups
* Disability groups

Applications which relate to these groups are given priority because these areas traditionally receive less funding than other areas. You can find more information on Sportsmatch funding for Priority Groups here

Funding - Barrow Cadbury Trust: new funding scheme

The Barrow Cadbury Trust has launched a new funding stream aimed at fostering greater cohesion in some of Britain’s most diverse towns and cities.

The trust will fund voluntary and community projects with grants typically worth £30,000. The new funding stream builds on the trust’s existing work promoting ‘Habits of Solidarity’ between people of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. Projects that promote ‘Habits of Solidarity‘ encourage people from different backgrounds to work together in order to tackle mutual problems.

They are looking for a small number of community based projects (10-15) that will add value to our current work and generate ideas or examples that can influence the national debate. For example:

• Ethnically and culturally diverse communities coming together to tackle issues that are a priority for all local citizens, bringing about positive change for the community as a whole rather than particular sections of it.

• Projects that can show how our support can help them to breakdown specific barriers that exist within their community.

• Projects that enable local people to coalesce around a shared idea or activity.

Click here for more information.
