| Events - Exploring Integration: Third Country Migrants in the EU | |
| The Middlesex University Social Policy Research Centre is launching two recent comparative European research projects which explore aspects of the integration and inclusion of non-EU migrants. It will also discuss the broader conceptual and policy issues arising from these projects. Presentations will focus on both the UK situation and recent developments in the EU and include researchers from the projects at Middlesex University as well as external speakers. The Research Projects The MITI (Migrant Integration Territorial Index (UK, Italy (lead), France, Spain, Portugal) part of the EU’s INTI programme, critically explored the meaning of integration and the EU agenda of measuring integration in order to develop policy targets. This project reviewed national and EU policy on integration and explored the possibilities of using existing data sets to measure integration. Civic stratification, gender and family migration policies in Europe (UK, Austria, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Netherlands) examined how immigration legislation affected different kinds of family migrants and their responses to it. It was based on policy analysis and interviews with NGOs, policy makers, academics and individual family migrants. | Jobs - Refugee Council - BASIS Project Assistant | |
|
Refugee communities have a history of establishing Refugee Community Organisations (RCOs). In ‘Integration Matters’, the national strategy for refugee integration, Refugee Community Organisations are defined as “organisations run by and for refugees. They provide advice and support, often informally, and act as bridges to mainstream services and other local groups”. The number of RCOs, estimated through the development phase of the ‘BASIS – RCO Infrastructure Building’ Project is 668 RCOs across all the English regions. The Project Assistant is key to ensuring the Project operates effectively. A vital point of contact for the team and steady administrator, the post-holder also needs to be able to engage intelligently with a range of subject areas to help ensure decision-making is well informed and evidence-based. The Project is at an early, exciting stage of development as such this role may best suit someone who will thrive in an environment that is under development.
