Events - Building Partnership and Cohesion in Our Multi Faith Society: Face to Face and Side by Side

This summer the Government published a new framework for building inter-faith cohesion and harmony in a multi-cultural Britain. ‘Face to Face and Side by Side’ sets out how government will work with faith based groups to improve community cohesion and interaction, as well as initiatives to support faith organisations in delivering public services. This commitment will be backed up by £7.5million worth of investment at national, regional and local level to build the capacity of faith based organisations and help them work and have dialogue with local authorities and regional development agencies. Speakers will include:

  • Baroness Neuberger – Faith Commentator and Social Reformer
  • Anne Vince – Chief Executive, United Religions Initiative UK
  • Annie Merry – Director, Faiths4change
  • Rosie Edwards – Author, Church Urban Fund report ‘Believing in Local Action’
  • Dr Doreen Finneron – Executive Director, Faith Based Regeneration Network

You are cordially invited to the Launch of Ekta Health Tent. The Ekta project is a charity organisation that works to bring together isolated, mildly confused, mildly depressed, disabled, housebound, recently bereaved and frail Asian older people in the borough of Newham and neighbouring boroughs.

The Project achieves this by providing befriending and support services, and providing the users with confidence by empowering them to govern their own lives.

Events - Somali Week Programme Somali Week Festival 2008

Oxford House in Bethnal Green in partnership with www.redsea-online.com, Culture and Heritage Foundation; Halabuur Centre for Culture and Communication in the Horn (HCCC); Horn of Africa Voluntary Youth Committee (HAVOYOCO) and a range of national and local community organisations is pleased to present the Somali Week Festival as a part of Black History Month.

This year’s festival will focus on the Somali concept of gobannimo. Gobannimo is a very complex word with a broad range of meanings including freedom and liberty, but also implying a dignified, coherent, independent, giving, tolerant, and respectful approach to dealing with other people.The festival will focus on poetry, prose literature and music which will be presented and discussed by artists and audiences.

Training - The Prince's Trust SoundLive Course- October 2008


Sound Live Residential Music course from the 20th October -25th October 2008

If you work with or have any young people who are aged between 18-25 and are unemployed, and NEET or is a care leaver/in care or ex offender/offender then there are eligible for this course the cost of the course is completely FREE and we pay for all travel cost to the venue in Gilwell Park Conference Centre near Chingford station.

We are keen to attract those who have a little bit of musical experience, i.e. can play instruments Drums, keyboards, bass guitars and Guitarist and vocalist are welcome to apply, also we do take rappers as part of the vocal group so let them know

Training - Ready Steady Start


Are you currently involved in establishing a new group? Or has your organisation been established recently? Ready Steady Start (RSS) will equip you with the basic skills needed to start setting up a sustainable organisation. It will also encourage you to consider if setting up an organisation is the right path for your group.

The RSS course welcomes new and small voluntary and community BAMER (Black Asian Minority Ethnic and Refugee) groups wishing to:

* Understand how to go about setting up or developing an organisation and
* Network with others in similar situations

RSS course offers A FREE 4 day interactive training course delivered by experienced staff from Advice UK, BTEG, LVSC, Refugee Council and two consultants who are specialists in their field:

Step 1 - Setting up a sustainable organisation (22nd October 2008 10:30-4:00pm)
Introduces London's diverse voluntary sector. Explores some of the challenges involved in setting up an organisation. Provides an opportunity to clarify the aims and objectives of your organisation.

Step 2 - Project Development (23rd October 2008 1:30-4:30pm)
Provides initial steps in planning a project. Explores the role of research in identifying need and in project development.

Step 3 - Governance (29th October 2008 1:30-4:30pm)
Explores governance issues and the importance of financial management. Outlines the roles and responsibilities of the management committee and key officers.

Step 4 - New to Fundraising (30th October 2008 1:30-4:30pm)
Introduces some of the basics of fundraising. Explores what is involved in developing a fundraising strategy.

Funding - Fundamental Rights Agency calls for tender


Fundamental Rights Agency publishes 4 new calls for tender:

  • The role of commemoration sites, original sites and historical museums in Holocaust education and Human Rights education in the EU (for further information click here):
  • The impact of the Race Equality Directive: a survey of trade-unions and employers in the member states of the European Union (for further information click here)
  • Separated asylum seeking children in EU member states: an examination of living conditions, provisions and decision-making procedures in selected EU member states through child centred participatory research (for further information click here).
  • Respecting, protecting and promoting the right of free movement and residence in the member states of the European Union: the case of the Roma

Funding - Free support with ICT fundin


Lasa is working with The The City Bridge Trust (www.bridgehousegrants.org.uk) and the Wates Foundation (www.watesfoundation.org.uk) to provide support to voluntary and community groups based in London on all aspects of ICT elements of funding bids to the Trust.

Planning and developing ICT as part of your funding bid is essential. By providing advice on proposed ICT developments and current problems we can pass on the skills and knowledge you need to manage and build your ICT capacity.

WCC is a community-based service, providing integrative counselling in South London. Since 2004 we have established a Multi-Ethnic Counselling Service providing multilingual and culturally-sensitive counselling with disadvantaged community groups, including refugees and asylum-seekers.

We are seeking a Project Manager to maintain and develop this exciting project. The post-holder will need to possess a special combination of skills:

  • A relevant counselling or psychotherapy qualification and professional accreditation
  • A demonstrable track record in service development in a community setting
  • Experience of managing a small team of practitioners.

The Project Manager will be a member of the WCC staff team and will contribute to the overall work and development of the organisation. For the right person, this post offers a good potential for professional development.
