MODA News - MODA GoldStar Conference: Voluntary Inspiration & Participation & Annual General Meeting

Thursday 19th February 2009, 10.30am – 4pm (Conference)
and 4pm – 5pm (AGM)

MODA’s Goldstar Conference and Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday 19th February 2009 at St John’s Church (opposite Stratford shopping centre with disabled access). The theme of the day is “Voluntary Inspiration and Participation:involving volunteers from diverse communities”.

At our last AGM we had a wonderful celebration of exotic cuisines from around the world from our diverse London communities. By popular demand we are again inviting groups to apply to MODA for a small grant (£50 towards ingredients and travel costs) to bring some cultural foods. Grants will be awarded to the first 10 applicants on a first come first served basis. Please hurry to return the form below if your group wishes to take part. We will then contact you to let you know if we are able to award your group a display stall, or a grant to bring foods. Food will be served at 1pm and there will be a prize awarded for the best presented culinary dish!

Attendance to the conference and AGM is free. Please click here to book a place.

19th February is very close to the International Day for Mother Tongue Languages. We are encouraging groups to contact us if they would like to feature a MODA multilingual publication celebrating and promoting volunteering.

Events - 17th Social Service Conference

Quality and Performance in social services in Europe - better outcomes for people

22-24 June 2009, Prague

Developing social services of the highest quality and performance is the ambition of all those responsible for meeting the needs of citizens, especially those most at risk, vulnerable and disadvantaged. This task is all the more important at a time when there is pressure on public finances.

With considerable current debate as to what constitutes a quality social service, the European Social Network has responded by organising its most comprehensive event on Quality and Performance in social services in Europe to date.

The conference will pose a number of key questions, including: what systems of quality exist today in different parts of Europe and how can we evaluate their outcomes? In an increasingly mobile Europe, should we move towards common standards or principles? How can those who use social services be involved in monitoring their quality? What should be the balance between cost, performance and quality and how can contracting or ‘commissioning’ act as a lever to raise standards and deliver better services for people?

The event forms part of the Official Programme of the Czech Presidency of the European Union and is supported by the Czech Government as well as the Committee of the Regions and the Council for European Municipalities and Regions.

Events - Manifesto for Female Social Innovators

3rd March – 6.30 – 9.00pm
The Hub, Kings Cross, 34b York Way, London, N1 9AB

In these difficult times, individuals, businesses and communities are in need of practical solutions to make ends meet and live in harmony with their environment.
We have come across fabulous work achieved by women in social enterprises, campaigns or networks, who have stepped out of the tramlines of convention and been brave enough to try something new. They provide sustainable, replicable, exciting and inclusive solutions working towards a socially, environmentally and economically stable society. We call them Female Social Innovators.

Through this manifesto we propose to bring these women together to help hold their heads high, to shout out what they have achieved.
Collectively, we MUST acknowledge and leverage the values, the connections, the achievements of these women. Let's connect!

So if you feel it's a useful movement, if you are woman or a man, join us on 3rd March 2009, in London, to connect, listen to, adopt and champion these female social innovators, the famous ones as well as those working in the shadows.
