| Events - Managing through the Downturn: Linking Practical Approaches to Refugee Employment | ||
| Wednesday 11 March;10:00am - 4:30pm Royal Commonwealth Club, London WC2N 5AP Despite the economic downturn, there is still interest from employers in the skills and experience offered by refugee jobseekers, in particular those with professional backgrounds.We will hear examples of positive stories so far achieved by programmes across the UK and are keen to see how we might, as a sector, join together more effectively to maximise the support for this group during the recession. We are also interested in exploring the opportunities available to individuals who might wish to one day return to and rebuild their home countries. More information and a registration form is available at the Employability Forum website. They have limited funds to support travelling costs for delegates from refugee community organisations. For further information, please contact r.john@employabilityforum.co.uk |

| Events - 17th Social Service Conference | ||
|
22-24 June 2009, Prague Developing social services of the highest quality and performance is the ambition of all those responsible for meeting the needs of citizens, especially those most at risk, vulnerable and disadvantaged. This task is all the more important at a time when there is pressure on public finances. With considerable current debate as to what constitutes a quality social service, the European Social Network has responded by organising its most comprehensive event on Quality and Performance in social services in Europe to date. The conference will pose a number of key questions, including: what systems of quality exist today in different parts of Europe and how can we evaluate their outcomes? In an increasingly mobile Europe, should we move towards common standards or principles? How can those who use social services be involved in monitoring their quality? What should be the balance between cost, performance and quality and how can contracting or ‘commissioning’ act as a lever to raise standards and deliver better services for people? The event forms part of the Official Programme of the Czech Presidency of the European Union and is supported by the Czech Government as well as the Committee of the Regions and the Council for European Municipalities and Regions.
