Events - Social Enterprise Within Health & Social Care – A Seminar

25th November 2009, 10am – 2pm
Hammersmith & Fulham Carers Centre, 182a Hammersmith Road, London W6 7DJ

Mainstream community, voluntary & third sector organisations are increasingly embracing social enterprise to consolidate & extend their services & operations & strategically positioning themselves to sustain services, operate in & take advantage of the competitive contracts and commissioning culture & processes. The emergence of social enterprise in the Health & Social Care sector is a growing & important development offering new opportunities within contracts commissioning & funding processes. This seminar aims to: promote BME awareness of & engagement in social enterprise; provide information on opportunities for social enterprise within health & social care sector; identify capacity building needs of BME health & social care providers; explore potential for diverse BME groups & providers to come together within partnerships and consortiums & bid for grants and contracts around addressing health inequalities and meeting health & social care needs of BME communities; improve engagement between NHS, commissioners, allied health professionals, third sector and BME communities.

Cost: FREE, but places must be booked in advance. £5.50 contribution for lunch from all delegates mandatory (not refundable if delegates do not turn up after booking a place)

Funding - Comic Relief Refugee and Asylum Seeking Women

Deadlines for 2009/10: Cycle 2: 13 November 2009; Cycle 3: 5 March 2010.

This programme aims to provide support for refugee and asylum seeking women who have experienced rape, torture and other forms of violence in their home countries and meets one or more of the outcomes listed below. We are especially keen to make sure that women get the help they need in making their claims for asylum, and also get access to emotional and practical services they need to help rebuild their lives.

There are two strands to the open programme:

Direct support to women - We will fund support services with the aim of helping women cope better with the trauma they have experienced. This could include services such as counselling, group work or self help support. We will also fund services that help women access legal support, health care and housing for example.

Training - We are also interested in supporting organisations to develop training for people working both in refugee and mainstream organisations to increase their skills, knowledge and practice in working with this vulnerable group. We hope that some of this work may be accredited and will have the potential to be adopted more widely by other organisations.
