Dr Kamal Rasul, MODA’s Director, has joined the London Regional Consortium of the Home Office’s newly launched ChangeUp programme which is part of their overall strategy to use the voluntary and community sector (VCS) to deliver more public services, particularly in marginalised communities. The programme is worth £72 million in England to build the capacity and supporting infrastructure of the VCS. Part of the programme includes money to be spent regionally and Government Offices are leading on the implementation.
ChangeUp sets out the policy and the strategy but the detail on delivery will be contained in an Investment Plan which should be published in the near future. However GOs are being asked to convene the regional consortia referred to in the document and members from all sectors—the VCS itself, local authorities, London Development Agency, major funders and service commissioners such as Learning Skills Councils and Strategic Health Authorities have been invited to take part. The London Regional Consortium met for the first time on 3 August and identified a number of organisations they felt should be invited, including MODA, to be part of the London Regional Consortium to help guide the development of a Regional Infrastructure Development Plan.
