Community and organisational development for new migrant communities

Since May 2004 when Eastern European countries became EU members, more than 1 million migrants from these countries especially Poland with (about 600,000) have moved to Britain.

These new communities face massive problems and challenges. MODA tries to help these communities: Polish, Check, Slovak, Estonians, Lithuanians, Albanians and Latvians, to help themselves by encouraging and supporting the setting up of self-help projects and community/voluntary organisations for them.

There is a big gap in this area and the lack of traditions of independent voluntary organisations and community work among these communities makes it difficult to engage people from the communities to take leadership roles and initiate self-help projects.

MODA is willing to offer group or 1-2-1 professional support to individuals from these communities wishing to set up community projects. We area also willing to work in partnership with other front-line or second-tier organisations willing to develop capacity buildings services for these communities.
